Rogue-South Coast Winter Steelhead Changes

Rogue-South Coast Winter Steelhead Changes

Temporary wild winter steelhead harvest restrictions are in place for the Rogue-South Coast winter steelhead season from Dec. 1, 2024-Apr. 30, 2025. Before purchasing your wild winter steelhead harvest tag, please review the restrictions:

No wild winter steelhead harvest in the Illinois River. No wild winter steelhead harvest in the Rogue River upstream of the confluence with the Illinois River. Wild steelhead must be released unharmed.
One wild winter steelhead may be kept in the Rogue River from the mouth to the confluence with the Illinois River.

Anglers can still retain hatchery winter steelhead per zone regulations.

The Rogue-South Coast Steelhead Validation must be purchased for any winter steelhead fishing in the area, including catch-and-release. Anglers also still need a Combined Angling Tag.

The temporary restrictions are in response to the Huntley Park half-pounder average being below the conservation threshold for 2022 and 2023. This is a conservation response outlined in the 2021 Rogue-South Coast Multi-Species Conservation and Management Plan.

Wild half-pounder numbers rebounded in 2024, so no restrictions will exist for the 2025-2026 winter steelhead fishery.
